Specific Need

Albany has moved the Rock Creek Church from Sycamore Springs to its new home at Albany.  It now has a new roof.  Adding bathrooms and repairs to the building are under way.  This project has been funded through the donations given through the Giving to Grow events sponsored by the Greater Sabetha Community Foundation.  Our work is not done with this building.

We knew when the building was offered to us that there were some things it needed.  We also had our vision of what the building could become for us here at Albany.  Part of those needs and our vision is to install a new roof, add bathrooms, add HVAC for comfortable year-round use, and renovate the organ.  All of these things require money, people, and time.  Albany Historical Society is looking for those people with the financial resources to fund the preservation and restoration as well as the people with the skills to execute the work to be done.

Mission

The Albany Historical Society strives to teach visitors about agricultural and community history and help visitors realize how fortunate they are today because of the sacrifices made by their ancestors.  This is accomplished by collecting, restoring, preserving, displaying and using museum exhibits in living history demonstrations as they were used by our ancestors in a way that provides for an educational experience inspiring those who visit the Albany Museum.

Profile

Each year Albany Historical Society hosts two major events.  Our original annual event that has been held for 57 years now is Old Albany Days on the first weekend after Labor Day.  Within the last few years we've added a truck and tractor pull which is typically on Father's Day Weekend.  Throughout the year people can schedule tours and reserve the grounds for their own events.  Albany Museum is open Saturday, Sunday, and holidays from 2pm to 5pm between Memorial Weekend and Labor Day weekend.
