Northeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging- Sabetha

Specific Need

Specific need:

Northeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging is a valuable resource for Sabetha residents and individuals throughout Nemaha County. In 2021, we provided over 1500 services to individuals in Sabetha and across the county. We also support local agencies like the Nemaha Meals on Wheels Program and Nemaha County General Public Transportation Program.

We are raising funds to support the construction of a 17,650 square foot COMMUNITY RESOURCES HUB to be located within the Walmart Retail Plaza between Hopi Drive and Natchez Street in Hiawatha, Kansas. This state of the art facility will include aging and disability services, a regional transit hub and dispatch center, a community café and Meals on Wheel of Northeast Kansas program, technology lab, and recreational activities space. Through this innovative project, we will be able to increase access to services for aging adults and individuals of all ages throughout our seven county service area. This facility will feature a community café that also functions as a senior meal site, where individuals of all ages can enjoy a healthy meal and aging residents can participate in Older Americans Act nutrition programs. Our technology lab will focus on digital literacy for rural residents and help them better use technology to improve their quality of life. We will also offer meaningful socialization activities and wellness programs as an opportunity to improve the health and well-being of community members. This facility will also house NEKAAA General Public Transportation, which will provide rides for all ages. This regional transit hub will help us expand our transit fleet and increase access to employment, school, medical appointments, and local retail establishments.
